Siti Aminah: Child abuse and neglect in orphanages in EAST JAVA Province (Study on forms of child abuse, anticipatory efforts developed children and the role of the orphanage)

Dr. Siti Aminah MA. is one of the teaching staff at the Department of Politics, FISIP, Universitas Airlangga. This doctoral graduate from the University of Indonesia teaches courses on city politics, political elites, gender and politics, politics and local government. He also wrote books entitled "State Power in the Local Politics" and "Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods in Political Science".

The research study conducted by Sutinah and  Siti Aminah raised the topic of children, namely "Child abuse and neglect in orphanages in EAST JAVA Province (Study on forms of child abuse, anticipatory efforts developed children and the role of the orphanage)". The research examines the forms of violence and neglect experienced by children living in orphanages in East Java Province, the efforts made by children in orphanages in dealing with the acts of violence they experience, and the role of orphanages or Child Welfare Institutions (LKSA). ) in providing protection and fulfillment of the rights of neglected children. The research was conducted in five cities, namely Surabaya, Malang, Nganjuk, Madiun, and Probolinggo. The results showed that almost all the facilities for children in the orphanage were satisfactory. However, children still experience violence, especially physical and psychological violence. Perpetrators are caregivers, friends, and seniors. To realize the condition of a decent home for children, efforts need to be made to foster commitment and understanding related to child care activities, both between caregivers and orphanages based on child protection efforts and fighting for the fulfillment of children's rights and not just services. Parenting efforts should not only focus on the needs of the child (need based), but also on the fulfillment of children's rights. Reflecting on the research, it can be seen that the study of children can be done collaboratively, as did Siti Aminah from the study of politics and Sutinah from the study of sociology. The study of children has the opportunity to continue to develop and collaborate with other scientific studies.
