Indonesian Transportation Landscape and Platform

Transportation in Indonesia needs to manage policy development and enforcement of laws and regulations that support transportation efficiency, safety, security, and environmental responsibility. These actions and regulations must be in line with: global standards and the latest changes in people's transportation patterns, which demand speed, timeliness, affordable costs, safety and convenience. Hence we look at how existing and future public policies, actions and regulations/policies can be made to respond to the current reality better.

Transportation has to be more than just a motor of the digital economy to harness the power of technology itself. With digital revolutions, transportation needs contemplating particular issues, for instance: efficiency in fuel use is linked to climate change, poverty, health, public safety, and women's empowerment and child protection in transportation. Transport must therefore be more than just a (digital) economic driver to harness the power of technology itself.

There must be planned regulation for the national transportation system which supports economic development, middle class employment opportunity elaboration in Indonesia. To generate a better, smarter, cleaner and more sheltered Indonesian transportation system, there are several things that require the government and related stakeholders further attention:

1. There is a need for leadership in each region and a national strategy to support Indonesia's transportation system in the future

2. We need to see how the current transportation system works as a whole

3. Specific actions will make the transportation system work for the middle and lower class in Indonesia.

The implementation of online transportation in every region needs to be adapted according to the needs of the community. This concludes that the regulations made by the regional head along with the DPRD are able to accommodate the needs and aspirations of all actors in the online transportation system. Stuffs that needs to be consider within the material of the Law or Regional Regulation are building a safe, green, innovative, and integrated transportation system that supports: local, national and international trade and economic growth, facilitate the accessibility of the lower middle class on public transportation, facilitate the mobility of people in rural and suburban areas and promote mobility and accessibility for vulnerable groups and people with disabilities, a cleaner environment, improve the welfare of the lower middle class.

Designing an ideal Transportation Law is to follow developments and technology platforms. There are several things in the Transportation Law that could be applied in the next 10-20 years. The law regulates themes in the range of modes of transportation (rail, land, air based, including freight forwarding) as well as activities (such as regulation and enforcement of transportation regulations/laws). Needless to say, each theme has its own specific purpose.
